JOB PURPOSE / SUMMARY

Provides safe, courteous, and timely bus transportation for Jackson County School System's (JCSS) students.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS
  • 180 day work calendar, 5 Hours per day
  • Annual Salary based on years of experience in similar roles
  • Annual Salary Range: $18,896 - $26,156 ($20.99 - $29.06 per hour)
  • FSLA Status:
    Non‑Exempt
  • Eligible for Jackson County School System Benefits
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's (DMV) License.
  • Current Commercial Driver's License (CDL), class B with Passenger and School Bus endorsement.
  • Such additional health and age requirements at the Board of Education may desire.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform essential functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  • Drives designated route according to stop schedule and transports students to and from school.
  • Performs pre-trip inspection of bus as required by department regulations and post-trip inspection for children who may be left on bus.
  • Fuels assigned bus as needed and records data.
  • Delivers bus to Transportation department shop as directed by pre‑arranged monthly schedule as needed.
  • Submits all reports and time sheets in a timely manner as required by the Transportation department.
  • Attends required training meetings, Orientation, State Safety meetings, and all other meetings as requested.
  • Operates school buses in accordance with the laws of Georgia and the policies prescribed by the Jackson County School District.
  • Operates a bus without receiving a traffic violation or warning citation from state or local law enforcement.
  • Operates the bus without any preventable accidents.
  • Maintains external and internal cleanliness of the bus as required for safe comfortable operation.
  • Monitors/operates communication devices for essential and emergency transmissions only.
  • Conducts emergency evacuation drills as required.
  • Reports delays, accidents, and unusual situations to the Transportation department.
  • Maintains cordial relations with parents, administrators, other employees, and the general public.
  • Maintains student discipline on the bus and refers serious infractions to appropriate administrators.
  • Establishes, maintains, and utilizes seating assignment as required.
  • Collects, maintains, and periodically updates emergency information and is aware of students' medical needs reported by parents/guardians.
  • Special Education Lift Bus Only:
    Operates wheelchair lift and secures door on lift during transport.
  • Special Education Lift Bus Only:
    Performs necessary tie‑downs for wheelchairs and seat security devices for students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
PERFORMANCE FACTORS
  • Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of force greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated light work.
  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.
  • Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which one must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.
