This position is responsible for supervising and participating in the maintenance of the county's vehicle and equipment fleet.
Job Duties- Schedules, supervises, and performs preventive maintenance on county vehicles and equipment.
- Supervises and performs repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment, including fire trucks, tractors, dump trucks, trailers, etc.; diagnoses and repairs a variety of transmission, electric system, brake system, mechanical system, or other system malfunctions.
- Trains, assists, supervises and evaluates personnel.
- Assigns work to employees and ensures compliance with policies and procedures.
- Maintains tool and parts inventory; makes purchases as needed; supervises and participates in the unloading of delivery trucks.
- Makes welding and fabrication repairs on equipment.
- Responds to field breakdowns and assists with field repairs as needed.
- Prepares trucks and equipment for winter weather; operates a variety of snow and ice removal equipment as needed; assists in storm cleanup as needed.
- Processes and prioritizes work orders.
- Maintains vehicle maintenance and repair records.
- Supervises and participates in maintaining a clean and tidy shop.
- Performs related duties.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associates degree or technical school certificate preferred.
- ASE certification preferred.
- More than five years of related experience required.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Knowledge of vehicle and equipment diagnosis, repair and maintenance principles and practices.
- Knowledge of county purchasing policies.
- Knowledge of county personnel policies.
- Knowledge of relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
- Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
- Skill in the use of a variety of tools and equipment used in the maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
- Skill in developing short- and long-range plans.
- Skill in establishing priorities and organizing work.
- Skill in management and supervision.
- Skill in public and interpersonal relations.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
