Job Description

General S ummary : Supervises the day-to-day operations and staff involved in the maintenance of all of airport motorized and non-motorized mechanical equipment within the guidelines of supervisory instructions, airport policies and procedures, and the specific operating, maintenance and specifications of each vehicle or piece of equipment.

Key Responsibilities and Performance Standards:

Supervises personnel and troubleshoots activities involved in the maintenance/repair of the Airport’s entire fleet of motorized and non-motorized vehicles and equipment, such as standard vehicles, electric vehicles, aviation ground support equipment, tractors, bat wing mowers, riding mowers, small engines, golf carts, tankers/sweepers, etc. and non-motorized equipment such as manual loading bridges, aircraft stairs, etc. Works alongside assigned employees to provide “hands on” support as needed.

Supervises personnel and maintains the aviation fuel filtering and water defense system. Designs and modifies equipment acquired from external sources to meet airport specification. Monitors all equipment; including but not limited to fuel trucks and fire trucks; to ensure compliance with federal safety rules and regulations.

Purchases parts and researches supplies, oversee all shipping and receiving of items, maintains budget, maintains equipment records, both paper and digital. Receives, processes work orders in a timely manner, both paper and digital. Processes paperwork for proper procurement of all related items in a timely manner.

Works with other agencies to liquidate surplus vehicles and equipment for Augusta Regional Airport.

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES MIGHT INCLUDE :

  • Maintains all airport related vehicles and maintenance equipment, Airport Fuelers, tugs and equipment necessary for the operation of Aviation Services.
  • Maintains all fuel farms. Works with internal and external sources to make repairs. Works with internal and external sources to repair issues in an urgent manner. Works to promptly correct deficiencies per any federal or local inspection findings.

Education: High School diploma or GED.

Automotive or airport related equipment trade school preferred.

Experience: Eight years of experience in vehicle maintenance to include two years of supervisory experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the principles, techniques, and practices of servicing and repairing equipment drive trains, suspensions and braking systems, heating, and air conditioning, electrical, air, hydraulic and other related systems; the use and operation of tools and machinery used in equipment repair work and the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Limited proficiency in diagnosing malfunctions or defects in equipment, adapting available tools and parts to specific repair problems, and interpreting technical instructions from manufacturers manuals and bulletins or other related date.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of filtration, pumping, and water defense system on fueling systems, fixed or mobile.
  • Knowledge of Fuel Truck and Fuel Farm Maintenance
  • Good communication skills both oral and written.
  • Ability to safely operate any vehicle or equipment, operating on airfield or ramp (airside), while traveling or communicating with Air Traffic Control (ATC) via handheld, or vehicle mounted radio, or utilizing failsafe communications, within regulations.

Position Requires:

  • Ability to pass Criminal History Record Check and Security Threat Assessment.
  • Must maintain appropriate security status at all times.
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License with good driving history. If state license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days.

Certification: 2 ASE certifications in medium and heavy trucks (Preferred)

OTHER:

This position requires staff call up in an emergency situation and travel from office to other locations.
