Summary

This position serves as a Warehouse Worker located within the Warehouse area of the Supply Chain Management Service in the Charlie Norwood Veterans Affairs Health Care System performing work that involves handling and/or overseeing one or more product lines – a segment of a large warehouse – or may serve as the senior employee in a smaller warehouse or supply facility.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement – 07/22/2026. Experience of a specific length is not required; applicants must provide evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties. Evidence must be supported by detailed resume descriptions. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Qualification will first be evaluated against the screen‑out element, then against the remaining job elements:
Dexterity and Safety, Interpretation of Instructions, Specifications (other than blueprint reading), Materials Technical Practices, work without more than normal supervision, and Work Practices Experience. Experience may include paid, unpaid, or volunteer work performed through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) or other organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and may be credited as qualifying experience. Full‑time work is considered 35–40 hours per week;

part‑time experience is credited based on actual time spent. Applicants must clearly indicate the nature of duties, responsibilities, and hours for any experience requested for credit.

Physical Requirements

Work involves considerable walking, pushing, and pulling of carts and materials handling equipment. Tasks include offloading and loading trucks, lifting products onto and off shelves, and handling boxes frequently weighing over 40 pounds. Occasionally, operators will handle equipment, furniture, and materials exceeding 100 pounds, typically with specialized equipment or coworker assistance. Projects may require moving large quantities of product over extended periods, such as turn‑ins and large shipments.

While operating vehicles, additional exertion may be required for backing, turning trucks, and using forklifts or hand trucks on uneven terrains. Operatives must possess a valid state driver’s license or commercial driver’s license (CDL) if required to operate motor vehicles.

Working Conditions

Required to work in storage buildings, pods, trailers, vehicles, and warehouses that may be hot, cold, drafty, or poorly lit. Work may also be performed outdoors on docks with deliveries in all weather conditions during all seasons. Hazardous materials may be encountered daily. Duties carry a risk of trips, falls, scrapes, cuts, bruises, or injuries from equipment use. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required.

Conditions may result in serious accidents; precautions will be taken.

Duties
  • Develops and implements storage plans for assigned area(s) and arranges for movement of supplies between warehouse locations
  • Consolidates materials and provides maximum space utilization and protection of materials
  • Coordinates incoming and outgoing shipments and placement of materials on docking areas
  • Selects specific storage locations within the framework of general warehousing plan
  • Rotates stock, checks for outdated materials, and maintains appropriate safeguards and temperature controls
  • Handles delivering and warehousing materials including hazardous, flammable and temperature‑sensitive products
  • Drives vehicles – trucks or vans not exceeding 4500 pounds vehicular weight – with electrical or hydraulic lift
  • Groups supplies in a logical and easy‑access manner while ensuring maximum efficiency of space
  • Submits monthly reports – status updates, periodic monitors, and setting benchmarks
  • Coordinates all excess/turn‑ins of equipment and materials
  • May serve as a senior member of a warehouse project team
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

    Monday to Friday – 7:30 am to 4:00 pm
