Job Description
We are in search of an Assistant Controller in the healthcare and social assistance industry. The role is based in Lewiston, Maine, United States and entails assisting with the preparation of financial statements, ensuring adherence to regulatory and accounting guidelines, and establishing effective control systems.
Responsibilities- Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices
- Support most aspects of the accounting management process including month-end and year-end close, journal entry preparation and review, and balance sheet reconciliation
- Support and promote the mission and values of the organization
- Assist in the preparation of operating budgets/forecasts and capital budgets
- Review the company’s accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances
- Utilize accounting IT system to facilitate processes and maintain records
- Maintain all required competencies and complete annual compliance courses on time
- Assist in the development of reports for management or regulatory bodies
- Support the audit, and 990 preparations
- Perform other duties consistent with the role
- Proficiency in Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Demonstrated knowledge of auditing processes
- Experience in budget processes and budgeting
- Ability to prepare financial reports
- Experience with Year End Closings and Month End Close
- Proficiency in preparing Journal Entries
- Understanding of US GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related field
- Proven experience in a similar role within the Healthcare, Hospitals, or Social Assistance industry
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information
