Senior Staff Accountant – Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS)
Location:
Augusta, Maine (partial telework). Salary: $50,377.60–$70,699.20 per year, inclusive of a 2.25% recruitment and retention stipend.
- Provide program accounting, cash management, revenue/expenditure control, and other financial accounting services.
- Review and analyze financial data ensuring accuracy for cost allocation processing.
- Reconcile complex accounts, formulate corrections, and record adjusting entries.
- Develop and recommend system and process changes through evaluation and application of accounting theory.
- Consult with agency program managers and internal/external financial staff to identify business needs, compliance issues, and reporting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal fiscal policies regarding cost allocation and budgeting.
- Prepare projections for cost allocation and budgeting for all DHHS.
- Work independently and support DHHS teams on reconciliation of administrative costs and implement accounting procedures for Service Center‑wide use.
- Intermediate to advanced education, training, or experience in accounting, business administration, financial planning, budgeting, or related field demonstrating competency in analyzing complex data and records, interpreting policies, rules, and laws, designing operational frameworks, identifying process and procedure deficiencies, and developing practical solutions.
- Thorough knowledge and experience of complex accounting principles.
- Prior experience and/or education demonstrating knowledge of GAAP/GASB, analyzing accounting data and reconciliations.
- Proven ability to complete accounting transactions and account reconciliations.
- 13 paid holidays, 12 days of sick leave, and 3+ weeks of vacation leave annually (accrual increases with service).
