Supervisory Accountant

The Supervisory Accountant will be in the Accounting Section of Fiscal Service. This section provides general ledger operations, cost accounting, financial statements and reports, and advisory services for VHA & IT appropriations. Incumbent is responsible for the entire Financial Management System (FMS). Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervising responsibilities including staff training, performance evaluations/appraisals, selection of personnel, leave administration, career guidance/development and Equal Employment opportunity considerations.
  • Responsible for day-to-day operation and financial integrity of numerous and varied complex accounting and operations' programs.
  • Ensuring the maintenance of the various accounting system general ledgers and subsidiary ledger accounts.
  • Directing the analyses and reviews of daily operations including those of a non-recurring or unusual nature to ensure that the transactions comply with appropriate laws and regulations affecting the receipt and/or expenditure of funds and financial reports.
  • Directing the analysis and reviews of various computerized reports and documentation for discrepancies and the resolution of inconsistencies or out-of-balance conditions.
  • Interprets and applies VA, Treasury Department, Office of Management and Budget and General Accounting Office directives applicable to specific accounting or fiscal programs and implements new or changed procedures so as to achieve an efficient work flow.
  • Directs the work of staff to accomplish program improvements, enhancements or corrections to achieve improved operating procedures, increase efficiency and/or more accurate and valid financial reports.
  • Ensures integrity of financial reports, Treasury reports and other Central Office and local reports and ensures they are prepared accurately and submitted timely.
  • Serves as liaison with various services within the Medical Center, Central Office, Treasury and Austin DPC to provide information and accounting data.
  • Develops performance plans and standards that are realistic.
  • Challenging and supportive of organizational goals and objectives.
  • Directs performance requirement analyses and collects data to measure quality, quantity and timeliness of work performed by the accounting technicians and operating accountant.

  • Reviews work papers and adjusting entries to end-of-month personal service report.
  • Directs performance audits of service fund control points and advises Fiscal management of results; advises control of point personnel and service management of improved techniques and proper procedures by coordinating the appropriate training (Finance).

Work Schedule:
