This is a full-time position located in Augusta, Maine and allows for partial telework with management approval.

Core Responsibilities:

The DHHS Financial Service Center is seeking an Accounting Technician to join the Accounts Payable Team.

This position’s primary responsibilities include:
• Review and reconcile invoices and supporting documentation to ensure accurate and timely payments.
• Leverage Excel to organize, analyze, and pivot data to streamline invoice preparation and processing.
• Ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures, federal requirements, and state statutes.
• Conduct quality assurance reviews and approve invoices in accordance with established accounting procedures.
• Collaborate with team members to improve processes, resolve issues, and support department goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry-level to intermediate education, training, and/or experience in accounting or another closely related field demonstrating competency applying accounting principles, reviewing and processing business transactions, and preparing reports.

The backgrounds of well-qualified candidates will demonstrate the following competencies:
• Possess good critical thinking skills, be flexible and adaptable to a fast-paced environment
• Basic understanding of Accounting Practices and Controls
• Prior experience and/ or education which demonstrates knowledge of GAAP/ GASB, analyzing accounting data and accounting reconciliations.

The DHHS Financial Service Center is responsible for program accounting, cash management and revenue/expenditure control for the entire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The Service Center provides budget and fiscal analysis for many complex areas within DHHS including TANF (i.e. Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) and Maine Care (formerly Medicaid).
