Job Description:
The Reprographics Office Associate II position oversees MaineDOT’s Reprographics Room, which is a large-scale commercial printing operation in MaineDOT’s headquarters. Working closely with MaineDOT’s Office of Communications and Creative Services, this production-based role is responsible for managing both the hardware and software within Reprographics in order to meet production deadlines. This role requires experience in commercial printing, especially with digital presses, and the successful candidate should demonstrate an aptitude for accuracy while maintaining speed.
This job is part of the Office & Administrative Support Job Family, and the successful candidate should have a strong understanding of office processes and a wide range of clerical functions. Key responsibilities include producing a variety of printed materials and managing a large inventory of supplies, including paper stock and bindery materials.
This position serves as the final point of quality control in our printing operations. The role demands a keen attention to detail and an ability to identify technical issues with printing, scanning, and bindery equipment, as well as detecting document errors before printing. The role also coordinates repairs with vendor technical support as needed.
Additionally, a basic understanding of graphic design principles is necessary to properly prepare documents for print or to advise others on how to do so. This position requires independent decision-making to determine appropriate processes, and the ability to take actions in accordance with standard procedures.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with production-level reprographics or print shop operations.
- Knowledge of imposition and prepress software (Freeflow/Makeready or similar).
- Experience working in a government, engineering, or communications environment.
- Standard office and production environment in Augusta, Maine.
- Frequent use of printing, finishing, and cutting equipment.
- Occasional lifting of paper stock and supplies (up to 40 lbs).
- Some extended hours may be required to meet critical project deadlines.
Training, education, or experience in office and administrative support work that demonstrates
1) competency in applying a solid knowledge of modern office practices to perform complex, varied office support tasks, and
2) the ability to use independent decision-making on the appropriate processes to follow, information to process, and actions to take in accordance with standard procedures. All positions in this classification assume the qualifications of:
Office Assistant I, Office Assistant II, and Office Associate I.
Some positions may require possession of a valid Class B Maine Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
