Job Summary
WSP is one of the globe's leading engineering firms. We are seeking a Highway Resident Engineer to oversee new, replacement, or rehabilitated infrastructure with construction values ranging from $1-$50 million. Positions can be based in Portland, Augusta, or Eliot, ME and Merrimack, NH.
Responsibilities- Manage and oversee various work elements including excavation, back filling, compaction, cast‑in‑place concrete, guardrail, drainage, overhead sign structures, and incidental items.
- Report to the Construction Manager or Project Manager and act as their representative as needed.
- Lead a staff of inspectors and on‑call material technicians or surveyors.
- Interface daily with contractors, subcontractors and project owners.
- Chair progress meetings and prepare minutes.
- Review, interpret construction contract documents and oversee work for conformance to plans and specifications.
- Review technical submittals and shop drawings for intent and compliance.
- Anticipate and help resolve design and construction issues.
- Review contractor’s project schedule and ensure logical sequencing.
- Complete daily reports, measure, calculate and track unit price quantities.
- Lead contractor pay requisition development, review and approval process.
- Evaluate potential change orders, make recommendations, and lead negotiations.
- Monitor traffic management compliance.
- Take and compile photographs for daily progress tracking.
- Update red‑line drawings using Bluebeam.
- Prepare and update punch lists.
- Coordinate final inspections and prepare final pay estimate.
- Support the final closeout process.
- Make responsible and ethical decisions regarding company funds, resources, and conduct in accordance with WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
- Uphold workplace safety and comply with WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
- High school diploma.
- At least 11 years applicable experience, including 4 years supervising staff.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; average proficiency with MS Word Suite.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Associate of Science or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management, or related field.
- ACI or NETTCP certifications, or ability to attain within 3 months of hiring.
- Hands‑on experience with construction management software such as Site or Field Manager, APPIA, Procore, IPD or similar systems; knowledge of Bluebeam.
- Demonstrated supervisory skills.
- Any combination of college education, professional licenses, certifications and experience will be considered.
