Summary:
Waterbury Public Schools seeks an experienced and motivated Portuguese Language Bilingual Resource/ESL Teacher to join our school district. As a Portuguese Language Bilingual Resource/ESL Teacher, you will design and implement language instruction, provide support and guidance to multilingual learners, and collaborate with other teachers and staff to create a positive learning environment. You should be knowledgeable in language acquisition and have excellent communication skills.
The Portuguese Language Bilingual Resource/ESL Teacher implements a strong instructional program for multilingual learners.
Responsibilities:
- Design, plan, and implement English/Portuguese instruction for multilingual learners
- Monitor and assess student progress
- Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and techniques to maximize student learning
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff to develop language programs
- Provide support and guidance to multilingual learners
- Develop lesson plans and materials to meet individual student needs
- Facilitate parent and community involvement
- Participate in and facilitate professional development activities
Qualifications & Skills:
- Required:
CT-Bilingual cross endorsement and TESOL (111) certification - Required:
Bi-literate in Portuguese/English - Knowledgeable in language acquisition
- Experience teaching multilingual learners
- Experience using a variety of teaching methods and materials
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Patience and understanding of cultural differences
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
