Humanities Teacher

Next STEP is a collaborative, 7-12 academic program that is grounded in the values and missions of Tree Street Youth and Lewiston Public Schools, and located in the Longley Building. Students and staff come together to co-create a dynamic learning environment that meets high expectations, within a culture of mutual respect, while honoring unique identities, life experiences, and aspirations. This school year SY26/27, we are launching a new partnership with Lewiston Middle School to offer The "Dream chaser Fellowship."

This model will support a new cohort of LMS students every trimester. Cohorts will participate in Dream chaser programming from 8:30a-2:00pm at the Next STEP/Longley building, each focused on a specific theme, culminating in a community-wide event. We are looking for a Humanities Teacher, with an interdisciplinary focus, to join our highly collaborative, innovative, and passionate teaching team next year!

To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women. Other duties may be assigned. Teaches District approved curriculum. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated. Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.

Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students. Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports. Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.

Supervises classroom and students. Volunteers with assistance, advice and support from administration.

Bachelors degree. Valid Teaching Certificate and endorsements.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.

Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
