The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from $120,000- $160,400

With general direction, this role is responsible for leading the development and implementation of the Company's initiatives with respect to grid modernization technologies and clean energy goals that enhance the electric system across the Avangrid Networks operating companies. Support the development and automation of Advanced Planning tools and applications. The ideal candidate will be highly skilled with a strong technical background in power systems and distribution planning, excellent leadership skills, and a passion for driving innovation.
This position will coordinate with other departments during the tools development and automation.
- Lead and collaborate with various teams within Avangrid and globally; perform research related to innovative tools and emerging technologies to assess relevance and benefits to grid modernization and clean energy objectives.
- Lead and coordinate the review and evaluation of new tools and solution alternatives through research and benchmarking.
- Act as a technical leader and subject matter expert to direct, oversee and mentor other engineers in the Department and across the Company.
- Proactively identify and perform special projects and studies that solve unique and complex problems with broad business impact.
- Work with subject matter experts and developers to develop new tools from concept to implementation that enhance existing processes or address challenges.
- Identify and implement best practices and process improvements to enhance efficiency and the quality of the Planning process.
- Provide technical assistance and consulting to other departments as necessary.
- Collaborate with vendors, contractors and consultants to develop and automate tools and applications.
- Assist in software product design, provide feedback to developers, perform testing of new features, and support end users.
- Present to Upper Management, Executives and Regulatory Commissions; represent Avangrid Networks on technical committees and provide input/testimony for regulatory proceedings.
Education & Experience
Required:
- BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- 10+ years of relevant experience
Skills/Abilities
Required Technical skills:
- Power systems engineering
- Knowledge of the distribution planning process
- Experience with distribution power flow software and grid model management
- Experience with Grid Modernization and Clean Energy concepts including:
Beneficial Electrification, DER & Load Forecasting, Distribution Automation, Non-Wires Alternatives, Hosting Capacity, Volt-VAR Optimization - Capacity planning during normal and contingency system configurations, DER interconnections, reliability and resiliency concepts
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering high-quality solutions
