Job Description:

This is complex engineering work as a licensed professional engineer performing hydrologic, hydraulic and water resources (H/H) engineering. Primary responsibilities include

  • H/H analysis and design for fish passage through Maine

    DOT stream crossings

  • Development of riverine and coastal design hydrology for a wide range of transportation projects

  • Field work and data collection to support H/H responsibilities

Direction may be provided to subordinate technical personnel performing related tasks. Work is performed under limited supervision. This work will take place throughout the state and will work with all of the different programs at Maine

DOT.

Representative Tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Generate design hydrology reports for bridge and culvert design

  • Design culverts for fish passage

  • Develop material specifications for culvert stream beds

  • Apply statistical, hydrologic and hydraulic models

  • Conduct look-back assessments of specific extreme rainfall/runoff events

  • Collect tidal water level data for tidal structure hydraulic design

  • Conduct stream profile level surveys and associated stream assessments for culvert fish passage design

  • Assist with assessment of water crossing projects for NEPA floodplain compliance

  • Advise on guidance for Maine

    DOT fish passage and hydraulic/hydrologic design

  • Maintain Maine

    DOT presence on AASHTO and TRB H/H activities

  • Serve on NCHRP research oversight panels

To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence ofthe following experience:

Licensure as a Professional Engineer which includes at least two (2) years of work experience which demonstrates independent design, engineering analysis based on established standards, and progressively responsible work overseeing complex engineering projects with increased accountability.

Licensing/Registration/Certification Requirements: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class).

Licensure as a Professional Engineer as issued by the Maine State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers.
