Job Description:
As an Assistant Transportation Engineer for the Regional Program Interstate Team, you will be performing a variety of moderately complex engineering functions in support of design, estimating, construction, contract development and maintenance of transportation infrastructure.
Responsibilities in construction may include, but are not limited to:
- Act as an inspector in the field, verifying, measuring, and documenting work performed by private Contractors,
- Interpreting the plans and specifications that relate to the project,
- Assure compliance with the contract, department policies, procedures and specifications,
- Sampling and testing construction materials,
- Assist in final project documentation for project close out process
- Assist in the development of plans, specifications, government estimates for Interstate or other highway projects
- Assist in the preparation of contract packages
- Review preliminary cost estimates, contract documents for completeness,
- Compile and assemble final contract package documents for advertisement
- Assist with plan sheet template creation for use in the Regional Program
- Assist in specification updates, changes or new specification development
To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience:
A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or closely related field
-OR- non-engineering college graduates and non-degreed candidates must possess a Certification of Engineer-Intern as issued by the State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers.
Licensing/Registration/Certification Requirements: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class).
Non-degreed candidates must possess Certification as Engineer Intern issued by the Maine State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
