Core Responsibilities
  • Responsible for account reconciliations and reporting as well as maintaining financial controls for numerous lines of business pertaining to the recovery of funds.
  • Gather, review, and understand financial data from multiple systems and sources to complete account reconciliations and reporting.
  • Ensure that all reports are well-designed, checked for accuracy, and nearly self‑explanatory to the user.
  • Reconcile various accounting systems and identify issues or errors to initiate corrections and make adjusting entries when necessary.
  • Formulate and recommend improvements to systems and processes through evaluation, analysis, and application of accounting theory to eliminate future problems and improve processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Analyze systemic and data‑driven processes, providing recommendations and proposed solutions, leveraging standardization and automation to maximize efficiencies.
  • Contribute to the Department’s mission by helping ensure state and federal funds are utilized efficiently to meet the health and welfare needs of Maine’s citizens.
  • Contribute to the development of business processes and accounting controls to implement and maintain sound fiscal practices while maintaining working relationships with providers and customers in whom you are seeking repayment.
  • Apply fiscal analysis with a forward-facing provider/client focus.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Eight (8) years of education, training, and/or experience analyzing, evaluating, and/or developing improvements to organizational and/or managerial systems, programs, and practices.
  • Preference for candidates with experience in operations and/or financial management planning and/or accounts receivable and collections practices across several state and federally regulated programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of complex accounting principles.
  • Experience with GAAP/GASB, accounting data analysis, and accounting reconciliations.
