Do you enjoy working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment? Do you have a great eye for detail and a passion for customer service? The Maine Department of Labor, Bureau of Unemployment Compensation, is seeking an Unemployment Tax Associate.
We are looking for ambitious, analytical individuals with excellent communication skills and keen attention to detail to join our growing Customer Support team. In this position you will play a critical role in providing customer service support to employers, ensuring tax and wage reports are filed and payments are applied accurately and timely.
We offer a flexible hybrid remote and in office work schedule after a probationary period.
Primary Tasks:
- Provide customer service to employers, resolving questions and issues concerning established Unemployment Tax policy, procedures, and e-services.
- Research and resolve suspended tax reports and payments.
- Adjust tax and wage reports when applicable.
- Reconcile out of balance tax and wage reports.
- Make liability determinations using established criteria and regulations
Skills required:

Training, education, or experience in office and administrative support work that demonstrates
1) competency in applying a solid knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices to perform complex work in assisting taxpayers on complex tax matters, and
2) the ability to use independent judgment, initiative, and discretion to make determinations on varied matters. All positions in this classification assume the qualifications of:
