Environmental Licensing Specialist II – Augusta

Location:
Augusta, Maine | Salary: $54,412.80 – $76,315.20 per year (Grade 25, Professional/Technical Unit)
- Review development proposals to determine compliance with Maine’s environmental protection laws and regulations.
- Analyze technical and scientific information and draft decision documents.
- Interpret laws, rules, regulations, and policies related to environmental licensing.
- Defend license decisions before legal and administrative bodies.
- Lead project teams for complex, large, or controversial proposals.
- Perform work under limited supervision; may exercise supervision over subordinate personnel.
- Work remotely as permitted by department guidelines.
- Intermediate education, training, or experience in environmental science or related scientific field.
- Proven ability to analyze and process permits, applications, licenses, and technical information.
- Experience working with environmental laws, rules, regulations, and complex technical evaluations in a scientific and/or legal setting.
- Experience with caseload oversight is preferred.
- Education emphasizing natural resources protection and/or management concepts.
- Strong analytical and writing skills.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulatory programs, particularly Maine’s Site Location of Development Law, Natural Resources Protection Act, and Stormwater Management Law.
- Interest in implementation of environmental policy and computer skills such as GIS or database management.
- Experience in customer service or interpersonal relationships in a fast‑paced environment.
