Full job description

Are you committed to serving your community with integrity, professionalism, and compassion? The Augusta Police Department is seeking dedicated, community-focused individuals to join our team as full‑time Patrol Officers. In this role, you will perform a wide range of law enforcement duties, including patrol operations, criminal investigations, traffic enforcement, emergency response, and community policing initiatives that help keep Maine's capital city safe.

Patrol Officers serve throughout the city by maintaining a visible presence in neighborhoods, parks, business districts, and on city streets to preserve the peace, enforce federal, state, and local laws, and protect the lives and property of residents and visitors.

Responsibilities include responding to emergency and non‑emergency calls for service, investigating criminal activity and motor vehicle crashes, interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects, collecting and preserving evidence, making arrests, preparing detailed reports, testifying in court, and providing first aid when needed. Officers also engage in proactive crime prevention efforts, traffic safety enforcement, and community outreach while working closely with fellow officers, other agencies, and community members to build trust and enhance public safety.

This position requires sound judgment, strong communication and problem‑solving skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure, excellent physical fitness, and a commitment to ethical law enforcement and public service. Join a professional team dedicated to protecting and serving the Augusta community.
