Regulatory Compliance Specialist
The HR Generalist should maintain up‑to‑date professional knowledge through ongoing learning, networking, and participation in professional groups. They must bring broad expertise across key HR functions—including employee relations, benefits, recruitment, performance management, planning, and training—and be proficient with computers, Microsoft Office tools, and HR systems such as ADP.
A strong understanding of employment laws and HR regulations is required, along with basic payroll knowledge. The role demands excellent communication skills, the ability to work with individuals at all levels, and the capacity to navigate challenging or conflicting situations with professionalism, fairness, and composure.
The individual must demonstrate strong relationship‑building skills, maintain confidentiality, and work collaboratively across the organization and with municipal officials. They should also be highly organized, capable of managing detailed records, handling multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, and working independently with minimal supervision.
In This Role, You Will:- Manage full‑cycle recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding
- Support benefits administration, HR compliance, and policy updates
- Coordinate employee training and maintain required compliance records
- Oversee HR data and serve as MMA’s ADP HRIS superuser
- Assist with employee relations, performance management, and leave administration (FMLA, PFML, STD/LTD)
- Provide guidance and support to municipal officials seeking HR assistance
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, business/public administration, or related field preferred
- At least 4 years of professional HR experience across multiple HR functional areas
- Strong knowledge of employment laws, HR best practices, and HRIS systems (ADP a plus)
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to build strong working relationships and handle sensitive issues with discretion
- PHR/SPHR certification preferred but not required
- Make a meaningful statewide impact in municipal governance.
- Work with a skilled legal team committed to public service excellence.
- Influence policy, legislation, and legal best practices across Maine.
