* Pursuant to 5 M.R.S. § 196 the salary for this position has been set by the Office of the Attorney General Position #JOB DESCRIPTION The Attorney General’s Office in Augusta has an opening for an Assistant Attorney General (AAG) within the Professional & Financial Regulation Division of the Office. This AAG may variously advise, or prosecute administrative cases before, the Bureau of Consumer Credit Protection, Office of Securities, and other agencies within the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation (DPFR).

Additionally, this AAG will advise other state agencies and professional licensing boards, and prosecute professional licensing cases in administrative tribunals in programs and boards within and affiliated with DPFR. This work involves advising agency employees, handling disciplinary complaints against licensed professionals, providing legal analysis and opinions on regulatory matters, performing agency rule review, defending agency decisions on appeal to the Superior Court, and enforcing agency orders in court.

Office of the Attorney GeneralMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS This is not an entry level position. The applicant must be a member of the Maine Bar in good standing, have an eye for legal detail, be interested in complex state regulation, have strong legal advocacy and writing skills, and have a demonstrated ability to function effectively as part of a team. One to three years of legal practice with demonstrated proficiency in administrative law and litigation is preferred.
