System President

The Board of Trustees of the Maine Community College System (MCCS) invites applications and nominations for the position of System President. The MCCS seeks its next president to lead the System's seven colleges at a time of significant enrollment growth and expanding impact across the State. The System serves more than 33,000 people annually through two-year associate degrees, one-year certificates, short-term workforce training, early college programs, advanced credentials, and other learning opportunities.

Serving as the System's Chief Executive Officer, the System President oversees the overall operation of the System. The System President is appointed by and reports to the Board of Trustees, and success in the role depends on a strong, collaborative working relationship with the Board.

Candidates must have at least ten years of demonstrated successful senior executive experience, preferably in post-secondary education and an advanced academic degree. Candidates must demonstrate successful leadership experience in developing and implementing strategic planning, while providing direction and vision for the System. Candidates must have proven experience in working collaboratively and innovatively with employees, business, industry, the legislature, government, community organizations, and public and private education institutions.

Candidates must understand the role of the System in creating an educated, skilled, and adaptable workforce that responds to the changing needs of the State's economy, including a deep understanding of the System's enrollment strategies and workforce development programming. A proven record of fundraising is also important.

Application materials must include a cover letter, cv/resume, five references, a statement of the candidate's educational and management philosophies, and a response to the following question:
Given changing demographics and employers' demands for an increasingly skilled workforce, together with the evolution of artificial intelligence, how do you see higher education evolving in the coming decade?

As a Confidential at-will employee, the President receives a full suite of employee benefits, including health, dental, vision, and life insurance; retirement savings; flexible savings accounts; an employee assistance program; tuition waivers; a 529 education plan; MCCS matching grant; and paid holidays, vacation, and sick time. Dependent upon experience and qualifications, the Maine Community College System President salary is expected to be approximately $225,000.

To apply, upload your application materials when you complete the online application. Review of candidate information will begin on September 9, 2026, and the search will remain open until the position is filled.
