Summary
You will serve as a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT REPAIR INSPECTOR in the INSPECTION, TEST, QA AND TRAINING DIVISION, LIFTING AND HANDLING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties- You will provide mechanical inspection and test services on various naval weight handling equipment such as cranes, ensuring equipment integrity and compliance with specifications.
- You will perform periodic maintenance inspections and emergent deficiency inspections of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, structural, and electrical systems of weight handling equipment.
- You will inspect and troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, structural, and electrical components during removal, repair, alteration, overhaul, installation, and alignment.
- You will identify deficiencies that preclude safe operation and advise the supervisor of issues requiring engineering resolution.
- You will initiate proper corrective documents for engineering or shop work, inspect the work, and conduct operational tests to assure acceptable quality and satisfactory completion.
- You will perform in-process and post-completion inspections of repairs and modifications, ensuring compliance with written instructions.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
- New employees must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
- Within the Department of Defense, retired military members may be appointed within 180 days after retirement following 5 U.S.C. § 3326.
- Males born after 12‑31‑59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Security clearance (interim or final) must be obtained and maintained before and during duty; failure may result in withdrawal of job offer or removal.
- Pre‑employment drug testing (including marijuana) is required; failure may rescind a tentative offer.
- Pre‑appointment physical examination must be successfully completed.
- The position may require travel to CONUS and OCONUS, including remote or isolated sites, and use of military and commercial aircraft for extended periods.
- Work may require unusual duty hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays; overtime or night differential pay may be required.
- Personal protective equipment (helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, safety shoes) may be required continuously throughout the shift.
- Work may involve exposure to harmful physical and chemical agents; medical surveillance participation may be required.
- Position may involve exposure to high noise levels.
