Surrounded by ponds, lakes and rivers and nestled in the beautiful western foothills of Norway, ME, at Alan Day Community Garden we believe that everyone should have access to nutritious foods. For over a decade we have worked to create local food access, provide produce and meals to families experiencing low income, and create an inclusive culture around growing food, teaching cooking skills and preparing nourishing meals with the community.
Our youth leadership program provides students with valuable lifelong skills and our summer farmers’ market brings fun, connection, and nourishment to our community. The VISTA will join our dynamic and hard-working organization as we expand access to our community food center and kitchen. They will need to be comfortable working with the public, friendly, welcoming and professional, organized and efficient, extremely adaptable and patient.
The VISTA will enhance our existing programs while developing additional resources to meet the needs of families experiencing low income, developing knowledge and leadership among our youth and community members for growing and harvesting food, preparing meals, and serving the community. The VISTA will also be adept with record-keeping, written & verbal communication, and completing time-sensitive tasks by the deadlines, including reports, grant application, newsletters, and social media updates.

The VISTA will alleviate food insecurity by building the capacity of ADCG’s existing programming while also developing additional programmatic resources as needed, including the development of communications and outreach systems to expand the reach of ADCG’s food access programming and leveraging our social media, newsletter and website to create and share a narrative for food security work s will include a monthly social media video update, weekly social media posts, and updates to the food center and resources page on the ADCG website.
Through communication, awareness, and program development the VISTA will facilitate welcoming gathering events onsite with volunteers, youth, and program participants in all aspects of increasing food security in our region.
