Job Summary:
Maine General is actively seeking New Graduate Registered Nurses (RNs) to join our skilled nursing team at Gray Birch. This is a great opportunity to launch your nursing career in a supportive, team‑first environment where you’ll gain hands‑on experience, build confidence, and develop a strong clinical foundation while caring for patients with diverse and complex needs.
Schedule:
Full‑time (36 hours/week). Shift: Day and Night shifts available. An early acceptance incentive of $4,000 awaits qualified new graduate Registered Nurse candidates. Candidates are encouraged to apply at least 6 weeks before their graduation date; however, some exceptions may be made based on program needs and timing. Offer letters should be signed within 1 week of receipt, and the incentive is paid in full in your first paycheck as a Registered Nurse.
What is a Skilled Nursing Unit? A skilled nursing unit in long‑term care is a fast‑paced, clinical environment where patients receive short‑term rehabilitation or ongoing medical care after a hospital stay. Patients often have complex needs such as wound care, IV therapy, post‑surgical recovery, or management of chronic conditions. This setting allows you to spend more time with your patients, build meaningful relationships, and see their progress over time—all while developing strong clinical and critical‑thinking skills.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans based on patient assessment to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
- Collaborate as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
- Evaluate learning needs of patient and/or family and provide patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
- Effectively delegate patient care to ancillary personnel.
- May precept student nurses and new hires.
- May perform assigned supervisory responsibilities as needed.
- Strong head‑to‑toe assessment and clinical decision‑making skills
- Experience managing central lines, including PICC lines, and administering IV antibiotics (IV ABX)
- Hands‑on experience with a variety of wounds, including advanced treatments such as wound vacs
- Competency with G‑tubes and J‑tubes, including care and medication administration
- Ability to interpret and respond to lab values to guide patient care
- Expanded medication knowledge across a diverse patient population
- Collaboration with providers and rehabilitation teams to coordinate comprehensive care plans
- Time management and prioritization in a fast‑paced, clinically complex environment
- Leadership and delegation skills early in your nursing career
