Job Overview
This is the second level of professional nursing work involving the care and treatment of patients who are mentally, emotionally or physically ill. Responsibilities include overseeing and providing medical and/or psychiatric nursing care in a hospital facility, with limited supervision.
Responsibilities- Plan and oversee unit work including general and psychiatric nursing care in accordance with nursing practices.
- Inventory supplies, equipment and required medicines to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
- Administer medications and treatments to ensure patients receive proper medication and treatment in a timely manner.
- Orient and train student nurses and paraprofessionals to nursing methods, practices, and techniques, and monitor patient care activities to ensure consistent quality of care.
- Write patient progress reports to maintain medical records and document unusual behavior.
- Assess emergency situations and take appropriate action to resolve patient problems.
- Assess patient health status, plan of care, or make appropriate referrals to ensure patient needs are met.
- Perform audits relative to patient care to ensure proper and timely treatment.
- Conduct individual and group counseling therapy to provide patient treatment.
- Report on patient condition to appropriate professionals and recommend changes to treatment programs.
- Intervene therapeutically when patient exhibits signs of behavioral escalation to overcome situations.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related field OR graduation from an accredited school of nursing plus one (1) year of professional nursing experience.
A license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Maine State Board of Nursing.
LocationAugusta, Maine
Salary$35.35 – $44.32 per hour. Hourly rate includes a $10.00 per hour salary adjustment stipend and a $0.60 per hour institutional stipend. Shift differentials: $3.00 per hour for 2nd shift, $4.50 for 3rd shift, $2.10 for weekends. Additional nursing student loan reimbursement of $200 per month.
