The Camp Nurse is a qualified RN or NP who is responsible for providing medical care, health promotion, and first aid services to campers and staff at the camp's health center during the summer season. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the health and safety of campers and staff, ensuring appropriate medical care, and promoting a healthy camp environment.
Responsibilities- Provide medical care and first aid services to campers and staff as needed, including assessment, treatment, and documentation of injuries, illnesses, and emergencies according to camp policies and protocols.
- Administer medications and perform medical procedures as prescribed by campers' healthcare providers and ensure accurate documentation and tracking of medication administration.
- Monitor and assess campers and staff for signs of illness or injury, and initiate appropriate medical interventions and referrals as needed.
- Maintain the health center in a clean and organized manner, ensuring that all supplies and equipment are stocked, properly stored, and within expiry dates.
- Collaborate with camp leadership and other staff members to develop and implement health promotion and illness prevention programs, such as hygiene education, sun safety, and hydration.
- Communicate effectively with campers, staff, parents/guardians, and healthcare providers regarding camper health issues, treatment plans, and follow‑up care.
- Maintain accurate and confidential health records for campers and staff, including health histories, consent forms, treatment logs, and incident reports, and ensure compliance with privacy regulations.
- Train and educate camp staff on health and safety protocols, emergency procedures, and medication administration, and provide ongoing support and guidance.
- Assist with the management of the camp's emergency response plan, including drills, communication, and coordination with other camp departments and outside emergency services.
- Coordinate and communicate with local healthcare providers, pharmacies, and hospitals to ensure access to appropriate medical care for campers and staff as needed.
- Provide support and accommodations for campers with special health needs, such as allergies, chronic conditions, or other medical concerns, in collaboration with parents/guardians and camp leadership.
- Participate in camp staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities to stay updated on best practices and ensure compliance with camp policies and protocols.
- Provide exceptional customer service to campers, families, and staff, addressing concerns, resolving issues, and maintaining positive relationships.
