Substitute School Nurse
RSU5 seeks substitute school nurses to provide medical treatment to students in a school setting when the regular school nurses are absent. Requirements must have a current RN license and a Maine Department of Education Criminal History Record Check (CHRC). Minimum of 2 years professional nursing experience.
Primary duties/responsibilities include managing school clinic visits, intervening with actual and potential health problems, and assisting with decision-making. Manage and support chronic health conditions, dispense and monitor physician ordered medications and/or treatments, manage and use equipment and supplies ordered by a health care provider for everyday or extended use in the school setting, provide and/or appropriately delegate health care procedures. Establish and maintain professional communication with all stakeholders which is ongoing, timely, and respectful with consideration given to professional confidentiality.
Maintain individual student health records adhering to documentation standards. Create a caring, trusting, personal climate conducive to learning.
Possible physical demands include standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, bending and reaching outward. All substitutes are required to have a valid Criminal History Record Check certification through the Maine Department of Education, complete with fingerprints prior to employment.
