BRIEF

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position provides project management and field services for petroleum contaminated site cleanup. Specifically, the role serves as a field team leader during follow up cleanup and extended remediation activities after initial spill response, providing technical expertise and oversight for field investigations and remedial actions. Work includes statewide administration of contracts, reviewing technical reports, preparing and approving work plans, completing site closure documentation, and supervising contractors during field operations.

Responsibilities also include monitoring current and past cases, developing site safety and implementation plans, collecting environmental samples to support remedial decisions, and evaluating treatment systems to ensure effective operation and regulatory compliance. The position utilizes field-screening instruments to support site characterization and maintain safe working conditions. The duties of this position may require the use of personal protective equipment, inclusive of wearing a respirator during inspection and sampling activities.

Additionally, the role coordinates drilling and remediation service contracts, manages procurement and funding activities, approves invoices, oversees contract renewals, and collaborates with department staff and the Underground Storage Tank Unit to support statewide environmental response and remediation objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelors' Degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Geology, or other physical science and three (3) years' experience in investigation, monitoring, or inspection work in an environmental science field including at least one (1) year dealing with oil and hazardous materials technologies. Equivalent work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and experience:
  • Project management - coordinating cleanup activities and contractor work.
  • Petroleum knowledge - technologies, treatment systems, and regulations.
  • Technical report review - evaluating consultant reports and preparing work plans.
  • Effective communication - in both field and administrative settings.
