Position OverviewThe Line Technician is responsible for all aspects of outside plant (OSP) line construction, including the installation and repair of fiber optic, copper, and coaxial cable networks, strand and pole transfers. This is a hands‑on, physical role requiring strong technical skills, working at heights, attention to detail, and a commitment to safe, high‑quality work. The role requires regular rotational travel to project sites, and the company provides lodging and a daily per diem while traveling.
Duties & Responsibilities- Drive a company vehicle dispatched to various sites for new deployments and network troubleshooting
- Operate vehicle‑mounted aerial devices (bucket trucks) and other lineman equipment
- Work off ladders and use climbing gear
- Operate cable lashing machines and related OSP tools
- Load, unload, and transport equipment and cable trailers
- Perform OSP line construction work involving coax, copper, and fiber optic cables, strand and pole transfers
- Read work plans, design drawings, blueprints and maps
- Assist with testing and troubleshooting of telecom infrastructure, as required
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and site‑specific requirements
- Complete associated safety documentation, inspections, and time reporting daily
- Strong manual dexterity, hand‑eye coordination, and attention to detail
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and within confined or isolated environments
- Physically capable of performing demanding construction work, including:
- Lift at least 60lbs
- Climbing ladders and working at heights
- Lifting and transporting heavy equipment (cable reels, lashers, tools, covers)
- Operate hand tools and work and general construction equipment
- Self‑motivated, organized, reliable, and team‑oriented
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with repetitive tasks and project deadlines
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to read blueprints and maps
- Proficient with Internet, Outlook, and able to learn mobile applications
- Safety‑focused with adherence to safety procedures and requirements
- Valid U.S. driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) preferred; or willingness to obtain CDL with required medical; an air brake endorsement is an asset
- Availability for rotational scheduling, overtime, or emergency callouts as required
- Ability to pass a background check and any site‑specific screening requirements
- Authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship
- 1+ year of experience as an aerial Line Technician or in a telecommunications construction environment, working at heights
- Previous experience in outside plant (OSP) construction strongly preferred
- Fiber, strand, coax, or copper network experience (FTTx / FTTH projects considered an asset)
- Lineman technical training or telecommunications certifications are considered an asset
- Hourly pay (40 to 50 hours per week)
- Hourly wage: $20.00 to $32.00 USD
