ABOUT US

J. L. Young Landscapes is a high‑end residential landscape design‑build company in its seventh year, known throughout southern Maine and the New Hampshire seacoast for exceptional stone masonry and distinctive outdoor environments. Our projects range from $100,000 to $500,000, each reflecting the standard of craft we hold ourselves to.

We are a small, close‑knit crew that takes genuine pride in what we build. We grow intentionally and invest in the people who grow with us. Good work does not go unnoticed here.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a skilled stone mason who is serious about their craft and ready to grow into more. You will work directly under our Lead Mason and Field Foreman—an experienced craftsman who will push your skills and hold you to a high standard.

We are not just filling a position; we are building a team for the long term. For the right person, there is a clear and genuine path to becoming a Lead Mason as the company grows.

IS THIS ROLE RIGHT FOR YOU?
  • Have genuine stone craft ability and want to keep developing it
  • Are hungry to learn from experienced masons on complex, high‑end projects
  • Want to be part of a crew that holds itself to an exceptional standard
  • Are thinking about where you want to be in 3–5 years and want a company that thinks about that too
WHAT YOU WILL DO Craft Work
  • Execute dry stack and wet‑laid natural stone installations under the direction of our Lead Mason
  • Maintain consistent quality across all phases of a project—prep, install, and finish
  • Work carefully and deliberately— we do not rush work that needs to be done right
  • Learn from every project and apply that knowledge to the next one
Field Contribution
  • Work as an active, contributing member of a 4–5 person field crew
  • Assist with site prep, material handling, and hardscape installation as needed
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site at all times
  • Show up ready, communicate openly, and take ownership of your work
Growth Path
  • Demonstrate your abilities consistently and take on increasing responsibility over time
  • Develop field leadership skills with direct mentorship from our Lead Mason
  • Build toward a Lead Mason role as the company grows
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Your Craft
  • Demonstrated stone masonry experience—dry stack, wet‑laid, natural stone
  • Experience range is open; your portfolio matters more than your resume
  • Ability to work precisely and maintain consistency across long installation days
  • Willingness to be taught and to refine your technique
Your Character
  • Reliable and accountable— you show up, you follow through, you own your work
  • Detail‑oriented— you notice what others miss and you care about getting it right
  • Team‑oriented— you make the crew better by being part of it
  • Honest and direct— we have a straightforward culture and we want people who fit it
  • Ambitious in the right way— you want to grow because you love the craft
Practical Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Physical ability to perform demanding outdoor work year‑round in Maine
  • Reliable transportation to job sites
WHAT WE OFFER
  • $28–$35/hr based on demonstrated skill and experience
  • 3% non‑elective 401(k)—contributed by the company regardless of whether you contribute
  • Full‑time, year‑round employment— we work through Maine winters
  • Direct mentorship from an experienced Lead Mason on high‑end projects
  • A genuine path to Lead Mason as the company grows
  • A crew culture built on craft, accountability, and mutual respect
  • Projects you will be proud to have your hands on
