Role and Responsibilities

Arigger’s primary responsibility is to ensure that heavy materials, machinery, and structural components are removed safely and efficiently on a construction site. This involves:

Evaluating the weight, size, shape, and center of gravity of materials to ensure stability during lifting.

Selecting and setting up rigging equipment such as cranes, slings, pulleys, hoists, shackles, and winches.

Configuring lifting systems to balance loads and prevent accidents.

Following strict safety protocols, inspecting equipment, and coordinating with team members to prevent hazards.

Guiding crane operators and other personnel during lifts to ensure precise placement of materials.

Rigging is essential for handling materials that are too heavy or awkward to move manually, such as steel beams, concrete panels, HVAC systems, and large machinery. Skilled riggers ensure that construction projects remain on schedule while minimizing the risk of accidents or damage to equipment and materials.

Riggers require a combination of technical knowledge, physical fitness, and attention to detail. Key skills include:

• Understanding mechanical principles and load dynamics
• Proficiency with rigging tools and equipment
• Risk assessment and problem-solving abilities
• Effective communication and teamwork

In construction, a rigger is the critical link between heavy loads and the machinery used to move them.
