The Department of Defense Veterans and Emergency Management/Military Bureau is excited to hire a Maintenance Mechanic with our Directorate of Facilities Engineering in Augusta. This position provides structural and craft work in the general maintenance and repair field. The selected individual will join us as a contributing team member with other highly qualified staff and will fill the primary general maintenance role, based out of Camp Keyes in Augusta.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Performs general replacement, upkeep, and repair of heating, plumbing, and electrical fixtures or equipment such as clearing clogged drains, replacing external fixtures and similar tasks to maintain systems.
  • Cleans, maintains, and services hand tools, machines, equipment, and work area daily to comply with safety standards, prolong equipment life, and maintain equipment availability.
  • Maintains and operates grounds maintenance equipment for snow removal mowing brush removal tree clearing road and parking repair.
Skills or knowledge required:
  • Knowledge of applicable building and safety codes.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow blueprints.
  • Ability to safely use a wide variety of power tools.
  • Two (2) years of experience in general maintenance and repairs of buildings, machinery and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to perform general mechanical repair work.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow manufacturers specifications and instructions for using, cleaning, and repairing machinery and equipment.
Minimum qualifications:

Two (2) years experience in the general maintenance and repair of machinery, equipment, mechanical systems, and buildings.

Preference will be given to those applicants:
  • Ability to operate acetylene and arc welding equipment.
  • Knowledge of tools, materials, equipment, methods, and practices of plumbing, welding, electrical maintenance and repair work.
As a condition of employment with the Military Bureau, individuals are required to pass a National Agency Check (NAC) this is a federal background check required by the National Guard Bureau and is in addition to any requirement the state may have.
