Rehabilitation Counselor I
State of Maine's Division of Vocational Rehabilitation seeks a Rehabilitation Counselor I to support students with disabilities aged 14‑21 in Pre‑Employment Transition Services. The role collaborates with schools, families, employers and stakeholders, conducts workshops, provides virtual career exploration, and manages case documentation. The position is hybrid with telework scheduling and is subject to fingerprinting.
Primary Responsibilities- Collaborate with schools, students, families, employers, and other stakeholders to deliver Pre‑Employment Transition Services across the state.
- Use virtual career exploration and preparation tools with individual youth and groups.
- Gather and enter documentation into the case management system.
- Facilitate workshops and trainings for clients, both via Zoom and in person.
- Develop relationships with schools and provide workshops to youth.
- Support summer employment opportunities for youth.
- Knowledge of disabilities and best practices in working with students with disabilities.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, individuals with disabilities, families, providers, schools and employers.
- Effective oral and written communication skills in English.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Experience using technology and Zoom.
- Flexibility, problem‑solving, prioritization and time‑management skills.
- Detailed documentation skills.
- Experience working in the community and schools.
- Frequent local and occasional statewide travel.
- A four‑year combination of training, experience and/or education in vocational rehabilitation program development and implementation.
