Responsibilities
- Perform professional social work in child protection, children’s services, and adoption
- Engage families to assess child safety and develop plans addressing safety, well-being, and permanency
- Create family teams involving relatives, staff, and community resources to support safe solutions
- Make timely, factually supported safety decisions with input from families and community stakeholders
- Assess child safety, abuse, neglect, danger signs, family strengths, capabilities, and functioning
- Separate dangerous caregivers from children when court action is required
- Plan for child safety, family preservation, reunification, or permanent placement
- Maintain accurate case records, assessments, activities, plans, summaries, reports, letters, and memos
- Follow federal and state laws, mandates, policies, and time frames
- Perform case planning and petition for protective custody and placement when needed
- Provide professional case management services for clients throughout Maine
- Work Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday from 2 PM to 10 PM, with Wednesday and Thursday off
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution in Social Work/Social Welfare; OR a bachelor’s degree in a related social service/social welfare/social work area including at least 12 behavioral science, social science, or social work courses
- Must have or be eligible for conditional or full licensure as a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) through the Maine State Board of Social Worker Licensure
- An LSW requires an earned BA/BS in social work/social welfare
- An LSW-Conditional requires an earned BA/BS in a field related to social work/social welfare
- Detail oriented
- Able to effectively manage and meet deadlines
- Frequent overtime, emergency standby coverage, and regular travel required
- Valid driver’s license required
- Currently not eligible for visa sponsorship or STEM OPT extensions
Demonstrates expertise in child protection, case management, and family engagement, with a strong focus on safety assessments and compliance with legal mandates. Proficient in developing and implementing plans for child safety, family preservation, and reunification.
