Software Engineer (Senior) – Real-Time Transport

Netflix is a global entertainment streaming platform that delivers content to millions of users in more than 190 countries. The Open Connect team builds the infrastructure that powers content delivery at scale, including real‑time network transport technologies.

Location: Augusta, USA
Work Hours: 8 hours per day
Pay: $22 per hour

• Design and implement RTP/RTCP‑based solutions to deliver highly interactive, ultra‑low latency streaming across ISP networks worldwide.
• Refine and improve state‑of‑the‑art heuristics for speed and latency estimation, congestion control, and loss recovery for RTP‑based media streams.
• Collaborate with server, client, and data analytics teams to evaluate and refine designs through lab and production (A/B) testing.
• Implement and deploy new ideas in the server‑side real‑time transport stack.
• Partner with remote engineering and product teams across multiple time zones.

• Strong understanding of network congestion strategies, balancing performance, latency, and reliability for RTP‑based streaming.
• Experience with low‑latency two‑way media streams over IP, including bufferbloat, active queuing, and concurrent TCP‐like traffic.
• Proficiency in network lab environments and A/B testing methodologies for transport stack performance in production.
• Knowledge of secure RTP/RTCP, DTLS, SCTP, STUN/TURN, and ICE protocols.
• Ability to communicate technical and commercial implications to diverse audiences.
• Experience developing software on Linux or closely related environments.
• Familiarity with tcpdump/wireshark and tools such as Python or R for traffic capture, test orchestration, and analysis.
• Self‑management of cross‑functional projects, resourcefulness, curiosity, and strong learning aptitude.
• Commitment to software craftsmanship and ownership of end‑to‑end projects.

• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
