Barrier Ridge Capital Inc. (BRC) is a unique private equity firm with a different approach. BRC utilizes its success in operating companies to view private equity opportunities through an entrepreneur’s lens.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the preparation of the annual budget, quarterly forecasts, and long-range strategic plans. Build and maintain sophisticated corporate financial models.
  • Support the Accounting Manager to drive month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities. Analyze the general ledger, perform variance analysis on financial statements, and ensure accurate legal entity and consolidation reporting.
  • Track and analyze Key Performance Indicators. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial review packages for leadership, highlighting trends and variances to plan.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses, ROI evaluations, and feasibility studies for new business initiatives, capital expenditures, and potential market expansions.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline financial reporting processes, enhance data integrity, and leverage business intelligence (BI) tools to automate manual workflows.
  • Act as the primary support for the annual external audit process. Prepare audit schedules, gather supporting documentation, and collaborate with auditors to ensure a smooth, timely audit across all entities.
  • Assist with the preparation and tracking of government filings and remittances, including HST returns, US tax filings, corporate tax installments and payroll compliance.
  • Evaluate current accounting and workflows across multiple companies. Identify bottlenecks, recommend process enhancements, and help implement robust internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure data integrity.
  • Help oversee daily accounting operations (AP, AR, GL) and provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Leverage financial data to support special projects, capital expenditure tracking, cash flow forecasting, and other ad‑hoc initiatives as directed by the Accounting Manager.
Qualifications
  • Strong foundation in Finance, with experience applying financial concepts in private equity, investment banking, corporate development, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Financial Planning, including budgeting, forecasting, and long‑range planning to support strategic and operational decisions.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret Financial Statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Experience in Financial Reporting, preparing management reports, dashboards, and investor‑ready materials with clear insights and recommendations.
  • Advanced Analytical Skills with expert‑level Excel (and preferably financial modelling tools), including scenario and sensitivity analysis.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline; a professional designation (e.g., CFA, CPA) or progress toward one is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to manage multiple priorities, and comfort working in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Effective communication and presentation abilities, with the capacity to explain complex financial concepts to non‑financial stakeholders.
