Theatre Instructor is dedicated to maintaining curriculum integrity and consistent instruction by providing high quality teaching experiences. This role is learner-centered and responsive to diverse student goals. The Theatre Instructor provides a teaching style focused on quality, innovation, self-initiative and problem solving. This role will support the Aurora Cultural Arts in the areas of teaching theatre and/or other related classes and events.
This is classified as a VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefited Employee), where the position does not provide medical benefits. This position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act.
The Theatre Instructor collaborates with staff to set goals and objectives for classes, arts education programs and related events; creates, plans and delivers lesson plans tailored to diverse ages, abilities and skill levels; prepares course materials that support objectives and student-driven goals; assesses progress through ongoing observation; engages with students and parents about ongoing and upcoming arts education programs; maintains accurate and confidential student records, including attendance and contact information;
advises staff on supplies and materials; maintains a clean, organized and safe classroom; communicates clearly and promptly with students, parents and staff regarding student progress, behavior and needs; supports a safe, inclusive instructional environment inside and outside the classroom; and performs other related duties as assigned.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Education- A four-year degree in Theatre or theatre arts or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 1 year teaching theatre performance.
- Experience delivering lesson plans to both youth and adult students in a classroom setting; private lessons may be considered.
- 2 years of teaching theatre performance preferred.
- Experience teaching theatre performance, techniques, stagecraft, props and accessories and foundational concepts, including acting, movement, voice, script interpretation, staging and theatrical theory.
- Experience teaching students of varying ages and skill levels.
- Familiarity with curriculum development in arts education programs.
- Bilingual
- Strong understanding of performance theory, character development and stage presence techniques.
- Knowledge of directing plays, rehearsals and performances.
- Knowledge of theatre literature.
- Familiarity with stage design, lighting, sound and safety practices.
- Practical application of theoretical knowledge.
- Adapt lessons for diverse learning styles.
- Techniques for assessing student progress.
- Excellent instructional and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents and staff.
- Creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.
