Job SummaryUnder the direction of a licensed staff member, assist students by helping individuals or small groups of students with basic curriculum work, implementing programming, reinforcing learning skills, and reinforcing discipline procedures. Assist classroom teacher by preparing classroom materials, monitoring students, and evaluating and recording student achievement. May include work with behaviorally challenging children.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist classroom teacher in preparing materials, administering tests, grading, attendance, and paperwork/documents.
- Assist students with classroom activities and curriculum delivery to individuals and small groups to ensure mastery of subjects.
- Monitor students and reinforce appropriate behavior during activities such as play, lunch, detention, in‑school suspension, classroom, or field trips.
- Perform basic clerical work: typing, stapling, filing, duplicating, inventory, scheduling repairs, maintenance, data entry, word processing, laminating, ordering supplies, phone calls, materials distribution, light bookkeeping.
- Assist with other classroom events such as field trips or fire drills as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications- Criminal background check and fingerprinting required.
- High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma.
- No professional work experience required.
- Title I assignments must meet one of the following requirements:
- Completed at least two years of study at a higher education institution.
- Obtained an associate’s degree or higher.
- Met rigorous standards of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local assessment, knowledge and ability to assist in instructing reading/language arts, writing, and mathematics; or reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness.
- Basic knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Intermediate English language skills.
- Intermediate oral and written communication skills.
- Advanced interpersonal relationships skills.
- Advanced organizational skills.
- Ability to work alone and with others.
- Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work one‑on‑one and in small groups with students.
- Light work strength level (lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds).
- Works both indoors and outdoors.
- Typical moderate noise level.
- Work location subject to change to meet organizational needs.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and climbing.
- Eye/hand coordination (e.g., typing, ten key).
