Position #:

- Requisition #: 40175

Job Summary:

The Director of Service-Learning Curriculum is responsible for the ongoing development, implementation, and assessment of the service-learning curriculum for the undergraduate medical student training program at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. The service-learning curriculum is part of the Health and Society pillar and is required of all undergraduate medical students. The vision of the Health and Society domain is to prepare CU's physician graduates to be systems thinkers, who provide exemplary patient and family-centered care, and promote health equity and population health through advocacy and leadership on behalf of patients, families, and their communities.

The service-learning curriculum will help achieve this vision by engaging learners in activities that allow them to: successfully complete a community engagement experience which embodies shared values, goals, and objectives, as defined by both the community organization and student learner; apply the determinants of health; demonstrate reflection of their beliefs, values, and cultural practices to discern how these factors will impact their role as healthcare professionals;

communicate effectively with constituents from diverse populations to foster respectful, productive human connection; advocate for the wellbeing of patients, communities, and populations.

The director will be responsible for maintaining current and establishing new partnerships for service-learning, ensuring the successful implementation of twice-annual service-learning cohorts, and supporting students and community-based partners throughout participation. This role will require connecting and collaborating with multiple community organizations and interested parties. The Director of Service-Learning Curriculum will have dual commitment to the success of students and community partners.

The Director of Service-Learning curriculum will be funded at 0.3 FTE, salary support plus benefits.

Key Responsibilities:

* Engage in structures and processes to ensure learner readiness for community engagement

* Identify, establish, and maintain relationships with multiple community organizations, members, and leaders to co-develop service-learning projects

* Coordinate with various staff teams, including program coordinators, OME IT, and OME Business Services, to ensure logistical processes are appropriately designed and implemented for the successful launch of each bi-annual cohort

* Assist with the design and facilitation of student and community partner orientations and trainings.

* Implement the problem resolution process for student and/or community partners to surface concerns, needs, or challenges and to address these issues in a timely manner

* In collaboration with service-learning program manager, track student completion of required elements and assign grades, as appropriate

* In collaboration with program manager and curriculum team, develop grading and remediation plans

* Participate in continuous quality improvement; assist in implementing a robust multi-directional assessment strategy (e.g., students evaluate community organizations; community members evaluate students) in collaboration with the Community Engagement Curriculum Advisory Board (CECAB), the Office of Assessment, Evaluation, and Outcomes, and the Health and Society leadership team.

* Provide leadership and oversight of service-learning branch directors in Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, and Longmont

* Provide oversight and supervision to the Assistant Director of Service Learning
