Associate Director – Faculty

The Colorado Area Health Education Center (COAHEC) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking a dynamic, mission‑driven Associate Director (0.3 FTE). This leadership role supports COAHEC's statewide mission of strengthening Colorado's health workforce pipeline, advancing healthcare in our communities, and supporting practice transformation in alignment with the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) AHEC program goals. The Associate Director will collaborate with faculty, staff, and regional AHEC directors to implement statewide initiatives, oversee flagship programs such as AHEC Scholars, and strengthen community academic partnerships.

This is a faculty position requiring demonstrated academic and scholarly capabilities consistent with appointment at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

Responsibilities
  • Provide course co-direction of the COAHEC National Underserved Scholars (COAHEC NUS), a graduate arm of AHEC Scholars, including grade management and curriculum support.
  • Collaborate with the COAHEC Grants Manager and Program Evaluator on data collection and analysis.
  • Direct and manage the AHEC Scholars allied health programming, leading meetings, maintaining the AHEC Scholars Handbook, and ensuring compliance with HRSA mandates.
  • Contribute to planning, writing, and development of grant proposals, particularly the upcoming HRSA AHEC 2027‑2032 five‑year model grant.
  • Design and manage HRSA‑required deliverables, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and successful execution.
  • Develop and strengthen partnerships with government entities, industry, healthcare organizations, nonprofits, philanthropy, and other community stakeholders.
  • Monitor grant proposal activity, understand COAHEC pipelines, and recommend strategic improvements.
  • Develop metrics to assess program and research outcomes, effectiveness, and community impact.
  • Identify process improvements to expand the grant portfolio and sustain community‑engaged research initiatives.
  • Operate under a hybrid schedule of 12 hours per week with campus presence on Tuesday mornings until noon, optional Wednesday or Thursday, and as needed for in‑person meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current (or eligible for) faculty appointment at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus at the Assistant Professor level or higher.
  • Demonstrated graduate‑level writing skills; candidates must submit an ad hoc writing assessment at the first interview.
  • Demonstrated record of securing external or extramural funding, ideally from federal agencies or national foundations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to build collaborations and coordinate initiatives among faculty, academic, administrative, community constituents, and stakeholders.
  • Experience leading teams, managing budgets, and supervising professional staff.
  • Demonstrated success leading educational and research initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a transparent communication style.
  • Expertise in the social and structural determinants of health, research, advocacy, program development, grant writing, and/or community engagement.
  • Experience addressing rural health disparities and engaging with rural and frontier communities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels institutionally and with external partners.
  • Commitment and leadership ability to address community healthcare issues through authentic partnerships.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and utilizing data to inform decisions and measure community impact.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidelines related to research and education.
  • Experience with indirect costs, effort reporting, responsible conduct of research, federal and state grant regulations, and human subjects research compliance.
  • Ability to educate, mentor, and support faculty, staff, and students at all levels.
  • Ability to work occasional off‑hours, including weekends and evenings.
