Job Summary:
The Associate Director will ensure that stakeholders understand and support the coordination and expectations unique to the Physician Scientist training and career pathway and facilitate students' progress to successful academic research careers. The Associate Director will have a leadership role on our MSTP T32 award, the MSTP Executive Committee, and various School of Medicine and Graduate School Committees as assigned. The Associate Director will understand and help revise key policies and processes of MD stakeholders when appropriate and work closely with the MSTP Director to integrate the curriculum across the long training program.
Participation in the annual MSTP Conference, MSTP Retreat, MSTP Student Council meetings, MSTP social activities, and individual student advising and counseling is also required. The Associate Director runs the MSTP Foundations of Doctoring preceptorship course, the Capstone Clinical Re-Entry course, and the Trailhead/Electives Return-to-Clinics courses. The Clinical Associate Program Director works closely with the Associate Program Director for Thesis Studies and the various MD Trek phase teams to facilitate integrated training and transition between the phases and to support the vision and plans of the Program Director working closely with the MSTP administrative team.
All MSTP leadership serve as key advisors to MSTP students, coaching and facilitating excellence in MSTP student achievement in both clinical and research work. They serve a prominent role as an individual advisor particularly in the last years of MSTP education, meeting with students regularly in both 1:1 and group settings to ensure that students move through the program and match successfully into top research-oriented residency training programs.
Supervision Received:
This position reports directly to the MSTP Program Director within ORE and has a dotted reporting line structure to the Vice Executive Dean of Medical Education. Supervision Exercised:

Key Responsibilities:
- 25% - MSTP Leadership and Administration:
Attends the MSTP Executive Committee Meetings, at least bi-monthly, and serves as a voting member for matters of program policy. Helps to draft policy proposals and updates in these discussions for presentation at Executive Committee Meetings. Brings updates on student progress and students of concern for medical-phase students. Meets with the MSTP Program Director 1:1 monthly to review current progress on key initiatives and projects.
Serves as the MSTP representative to the School of Medicine Curriculum Steering Committee, reporting out on program outcomes and lending MSTP perspective to curriculum policies as applicable. Displays a deep knowledge and understanding of MSTP medical-phase policies as outlined in the MST Program Handbook. Serves as a primary source for questions and concerns related to these policies from students, faculty, and staff.
Develops and revises plans for medical phase training and transitions for MSTP handbook. Participates in Admissions and Recruitment functions. Attends key MSTP Events Annually as a representative of MSTP Leadership. Contribute to grant applications (e.g., T32, R13) and renewals as needed, contributing and reviewing content and providing materials for courses specific to the MD curriculum and integrated training. May attend MSTP-related conferences and meetings on behalf of the program annually (MD/PhD Conference, SACNAS, ABRCAMS) and local presentations/recruitment events. - 25% - Academic Advising and Progress Support:
