The CU College of Nursing seeks an energetic leader to serve as the Specialty Director of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Program. This full‑time (1.00 FTE) faculty position includes dedicated time for program leadership, didactic and clinical teaching, and administrative responsibilities such as securing clinical placements, managing student plans, and overseeing program progress.

Responsibilities
  • Academic advising and student support: serve as the PMHNP Academic Advisor, monitor progress, establish performance plans, and guide students toward successful competency development.
  • Recruit and coordinate qualified students, conduct interviews and portfolio reviews, and support alumni engagement.
  • Curriculum development and instruction: lead the PMHNP specialty, deliver didactic and clinical instruction, participate in course and program revisions, evaluate and revise curriculum to meet state and national standards, and integrate innovative teaching strategies and educational technologies.
  • Clinical preceptor and placement coordination: identify, recruit, and maintain relationships with clinical preceptors and practicum sites; secure placements and provide documentation; monitor clinical compliance, progression, and evaluate preceptors and sites.
  • Program leadership and administration: participate in leadership teams for the PMHNP fellowship and Tools of Engagement programs, plan and lead specialty faculty meetings, and support development of new program opportunities.
  • Communication and collaboration: maintain effective communication with students, faculty, staff, preceptors and external partners; serve on divisional, college, and university committees; promote collaborative interprofessional teaching and scholarship.
  • Professional engagement and service: engage in professional organizations, promote the mission of the College of Nursing, and contribute to initiatives supporting mental health education and workforce advancement.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution (direct‑entry master’s in nursing acceptable).
  • Earned (research or professional) doctorate in an appropriate field of science, nursing, social science, education, or related area from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
  • Current certification for Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, collegial collaboration, and commitment to scholarship (required for Assistant, Associate, or Teaching Professor rank).
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an unencumbered registered nursing license in Colorado and an unencumbered APRN registration with prescriptive authority in Colorado.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Four years’ experience as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
  • Experience in academic leadership such as curricular/program development.
  • Current Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) designation.
  • Demonstrated success teaching across nursing programs (undergraduate to DNP).
  • Collaborative record of teaching and scholarship.
