Summary:

The Director of Elementary Special Education supports the operation and implementation of special education services in all Elementary schools including allocations, IEP compliance, collaboration and problem solving with staff and administration. Other priority roles include the coordination of allocation, services, professional development, hiring and supervision for Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and low incidence special education services (Assistive Technology, Audiology, Deaf Hard of Hearing and Vision.)

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate all special education services in all Elementary schools through frequent principal collaboration and consultation.
  • Collectively allocate Elementary special education staff based on student numbers and needs, in order to implement special education services per student IEPs. Address requests for additional allocations throughout the school year.
  • Collaboratively budget and hire for Occupational and Physical Therapists (OT/PT), Teachers of the Deaf, Interpreters, and Assistive Technology, based on student numbers and need.
  • Directly evaluate and supervise itinerant Teachers of the Deaf, Interpreters, and Assistive Technology staff based on student numbers and needs.
  • Collaboratively plan meetings for the OT/PT group and coordinate purchasing needed materials for their work.
  • In collaboration with other Special Education Directors, improve and refine systems for special education practice which may include: checklists for compliant practices, working with IT to create appropriate computer systems and reporting structures, creating and updating procedure manuals, creating and updating website information including exemplar work and organizing processes for student referrals.
  • Collaboratively work with families and the BVSD community around special education issues.
  • Frequent communication with Elementary staff around special education issues.
  • Weekly collaboration with special education administration.
  • Weekly collaboration with Special Education specialist team and daily collaboration with individual specialists regarding their work at the Elementary schools.
  • Participate in various district level committees in order to attend to needs of students on IEPs in all levels of district planning.
  • Collaborative coordination of Intensive Learning Center location decisions for pre-K to Kindergarten and 5th grade to 6th grade transitions, including program and data review for long term planning purposes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master's Degree in a major pertinent to the position requirements:
    Special Education or Educational Leadership
  • Must have a current Colorado Director of Special Education license or TEE
  • Minimum of five years experience in:
    Special Education
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Completed and submitted BVSD online application

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of IDEA rules and regulations.
  • Ability to problem solve with school personnel, advocates and attorneys in regards to Special Education best practices, IDEA, and program implementation to meet each individual’s needs.
Salary Information:

Salary Range 11:$110,256 - $165,384
