Working closely with partners in East Africa, University of Colorado (CU) faculty, and CGH leadership, the Faculty Lead will advance equitable partnerships, collaborative research, bidirectional learning opportunities, and sustainable capacity-strengthening initiatives. Serving as the primary faculty champion for the initiative, the Faculty Lead will guide the development of a five-year strategic plan, strengthen institutional partnerships, support collaborative research and grant development, and expand opportunities for faculty and learner engagement.

This position offers a unique opportunity to shape a university-wide platform for engagement in East Africa. The Faculty Lead will foster interdisciplinary collaboration across CU campuses while promoting ethical, reciprocal, and locally responsive approaches to global health partnership, research, and practice. The ideal candidate will bring regional experience and expertise in public health program development and evaluation, sustainable development, and the social and environmental determinants of health.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership and Partnerships
  • Lead development and implementation of a five-year strategic plan for the CGH East Africa Initiative in collaboration with regional partners and CGH leadership.
  • Convene and engage CU faculty, staff, and learners with interests in Kenya and East Africa.

  • Identify opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, with an emphasis on public health, planetary health, and sustainable development.
Research, Program Development, and Evaluation
  • Facilitate collaborative research, implementation science, and community-engaged scholarship activities.
  • Support ethical review and IRB processes associated with collaborative research.
  • Identify and contribute to grant development and external funding opportunities.

Education and Learner Engagement
  • Expand experiential learning opportunities, including practica, capstones, research placements, and develop a short-term study-away course.
  • Support development and evaluation of educational and training programs in collaboration with partner organizations.
  • Mentor and advise learners participating in initiative-related activities, as appropriate.
Program Oversight
  • Provide guidance on logistics, safety, and risk management for learners, faculty, and staff traveling to the region.
  • Travel internationally approximately once per year to support partnership development, strategic planning, and program activities.
  • Prepare an annual report summarizing initiative activities, accomplishments, challenges, partnership developments, and priorities for the coming year.
