Lead Design Engineer – Mission Critical
The Lead Design Engineer serves as the technical leader for the Design Engineering team, responsible for defining system layout strategy, integration standards, and design methodologies for modular power infrastructure products. This role drives the physical integration of mechanical, electrical, structural, and architectural systems to ensure designs are scalable, manufacturable, and consistently executed across projects.
Key responsibilities include serving as the technical authority for modular system layout and integration strategy, defining and maintaining design standards, layout rules, and integration best practices across all products, leading development of module architecture, equipment arrangements, and interface definitions to support scalable, repeatable platforms, providing technical leadership across projects, ensuring alignment, quality, and consistency, mentoring and supporting Design Engineers and Senior Design Engineers through reviews, technical guidance, and decision-making, coordinating cross-functionally with Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and external partners to ensure integrated, buildable designs, resolving complex multidisciplinary integration challenges involving mechanical, electrical, and structural systems, overseeing development and quality of 3D models, GA drawings, BOMs, and fabrication packages, reviewing and approving third-party engineering packages to ensure compliance with internal standards and system requirements, driving DFMA integration to support efficient assembly, installation, and manufacturing scalability, leading troubleshooting efforts during prototype builds and production, implementing repeatable solutions, standardizing modular layouts, templates, and design processes through continuous improvement initiatives, and mentoring and developing engineering staff to strengthen overall technical capability.
Qualifications include a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field, 10+ years of experience in product design and manufacturing with ownership of system-level layouts and multidisciplinary integration, advanced proficiency with 3D CAD platforms such as Solid Works, Revit, Inventor, or similar tools, expert experience developing system layouts, general arrangements (GA), and complex equipment integration designs, strong understanding of electrical equipment layouts and NEC clearance requirements, deep knowledge of structural design principles including weldments, lifting/rigging, support systems, and frames, experience integrating HVAC and thermal considerations into enclosure and module designs, strong DFMA and manufacturing process knowledge with the ability to optimize designs for production, extensive experience with BOM management, configuration control, and engineering change processes, and ability to evaluate and approve third-party engineering designs for alignment with system requirements.
