Overview

The Temporary Stage Manager (SM) at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee (BCB) manages rehearsals and orchestrates runs-of-show for BCB productions, including plays, musicals, operas, and dance. The SM supports production planning, supervises onstage activities for assigned productions, disseminates production information, and ensures post-production needs are met. This is a full-time, exempt temporary position within Performance Services, requiring significant nights and weekends.

The position begins in mid-March and runs until mid-May, with a possibility to extend. The expected salary is $960 per week. No housing or travel provided.

PERFORMANCE DATES/

SCHEDULE:

Winter works (Dance Concert)
  • Attend pre-scheduled residency production meetings on February 9 at 4pm and February 17 at 4pm
  • Spacing:
    Thursday, March 5 and Friday, March 6 from 10am–5pm
  • Tech:
    Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8, 2026 from 9am–9pm
  • Dress Rehearsals:
    Monday, March 9, Tuesday, March 10, and Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at 7:30pm
  • Performances:
    Thursday, March 12 at 7:30pm, Friday, March 13 at 7:30pm, Saturday, March 14 at 2pm and 7:30pm (2026)
Limitless (Dance Concert)
  • Attend production meetings to be scheduled
  • Spacing:
    Thursday, April 15 and Friday, April 16 from 10am–5pm
  • Tech:
    Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18 from 9am–9pm
  • Dress Rehearsals:
    Sunday, April 19 in the evening, Tuesday, April 21 at 7:30pm and Wednesday, April 22, 2026
  • Performances:
    Thursday, April 23 at 7:30pm, Friday, April 24 at 11:00am and 7:30pm, Saturday, April 25 at 2:00pm and 7:30pm, Sunday, April 26 at 2:00pm

End of Semester Events: Assignments to be determined with the current Stage Management team upon hire (end of April into the first week of May 2026).

Essential Functions / Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Production Stage Manager (PSM) for assigned productions and as Manager on Duty for projects as assigned in coordination with production staff.
  • Supervise ASM(s) assigned to productions; train student ASMs.
  • Attend and disseminate information from production meetings to relevant stakeholders; support and supervise rehearsals, including technical and dress rehearsals.
  • Manage and communicate weekly rehearsal and performance schedules and production information; distribute rehearsal and performance reports after their conclusion.
  • Assemble and maintain the Prompt Book, including the accurate playing text, cue sheets, plots, daily records, and other necessary paperwork for the production's technical and artistic operation.
  • Manage room reservations for spacing, rehearsals and performances; coordinate rehearsal prop procurement and organization with the Props Manager.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and training.
Minimum Qualifications
  • B.A. in theater or equivalent
  • 3–5 years of professional experience as a Stage Manager for theater, dance, and/or opera
  • Experience working with and training students in a higher education environment
Knowledge
  • Experience with blocking paperwork
  • Experience calling a play, musical, opera, and dance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
Skills & Abilities
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills
  • Exceptional facilitation and communication skills
  • Ability to read or follow scores for musicals and/or operas
  • Familiarity with File Maker Pro is helpful but not mandatory
  • Ability to work independently
