POSITION SUMMARY
The Sr. Project Accountant leads financial execution and project accounting deliverables for complex construction and renewable energy projects. This role serves as a senior financial partner to Project Management, Corporate Accounting, and Field Operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness across job cost, revenue recognition, billing, forecasting, and project financial reporting. The Sr. Project Accountant drives monthly and quarterly WIP cycles, audit readiness, and SOX compliance, while providing key financial insights that influence operational decision-making.
This role is expected to lead processes, elevate financial discipline, and serve as a subject matter resource for project accounting standards, systems, and internal controls.
- Lead monthly financial close activities, Work-In-Progress (WIP), 5x500 reporting, margin & top selections, drafting and issuing consolidated WIP packages for executive review, and drive SOX-compliant documentation and audit readiness
- Lead preparation and analysis of SOX compliance memos, unrecorded liability reviews (> $1M), and audit support documentation for internal and external audit requirements
- Own project setup, financial structure, and closeout in the accounting system, including job setup, budget loading, phase code management, change order entry, and validation of consolidated cost flows and PM budgets
- Lead review and preparation of monthly accruals tied to invoice status, material deliveries, subcontractor progress, and production milestones
- Oversee and execute job cost accounting functions including JCAs/LCAs/ICs, soft-close audits, job cost close, and financial system closeouts
- Lead revenue recognition analysis and adjustments, including trend and variance analysis to ensure accuracy and forecasting reliability
- Direct tracking and reporting of Solar, BESS, and O&M activities, allocations, and temporary labor, including related cost reporting and JCAs
- Drive visibility and resolution of pending change orders/VCCs, ensuring timely financial updates and weekly reporting
- Lead preparation of CIE/BIE explanations, margin analysis, and forecast support for revenue recognition decisions
- Present project financial performance through WIP presentations, leadership summaries, and stakeholder communication
- Attend weekly and monthly meetings
- May at times visit project sites to support project management and field operations
- It is also an expectation that the Sr. Project Accountant will look after and operate in the best interest of PSC
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Advanced Proficiency and/or Mastery of Excel, MS Office, Viewpoint, PVault, and Document Control programs as well as be comfortable and open to learning new software/programs
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles, time management and administrative skills
- Good communication skills to deal with owners and employees, and will hold employees accountable to processes and procedures
- Possess a solid understanding of job costing
- Ability to read and understand contract documents
- Strong communication skills with ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and reinforce process discipline
- Highly organized, self-motivated, detail-driven, and able to adapt quickly to shifting priorities
- Proven ability to meet critical deadlines and manage competing priorities
- Willingness to travel 0–25% and operate across office, field, and industrial environments as needed

- Salary $100,000- $120,000 annually dependent on experience, qualifications and competencies
