Job Title: Police Officer Entry (Police Officer I)

Onsite role located in Aurora, Colorado. This is a full-time Classified staff position with a campus police function that enforces laws to protect persons and property, prevent and solve crimes, maintain order, and provide public safety services.
Responsibilities- Enforce laws and protect persons and property; prevent, detect, and solve crimes; maintain order.
- Exercise powers of custody and arrest; restrain individuals suspected of unlawful behavior; investigate complaints and incidents; interview witnesses; gather evidence; respond to emergencies and requests for assistance.
- Provide traffic and crowd control; write reports and citations; prepare cases for prosecution; execute warrants; testify in court.
- Conduct safety training; provide first aid; offer security escort services; participate in police programs such as crime prevention and community relations.
- Work may involve field training and supervision during initial training; be P.O.S.T. certified at time of application; out-of-state officers with Colorado certification transfer encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Current, valid Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification
- One (1) year of experience in an occupational field related to the work
Substitution: Appropriate education may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Colorado law requires residency in Colorado at the time of application. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current, valid Colorado P.O.S.T. certification or ability to obtain by hire date
- Experience with CCIC/NCIC, Versaterm/Versadex, or similar law enforcement records systems
- Bilingual or multilingual
- Associate or higher degree
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and ability to make quick decisions under pressure
- Excellent oral and written communication; professionalism and integrity
- Ability to establish relationships with staff and campus community; outstanding customer service
- Strong attention to detail; physical strength and agility
- Knowledge of laws, procedures, and law enforcement information systems; familiarity with firearms, first aid, CPR, hazardous materials, and related areas
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook
- Current Colorado POST certification required at time of hire; POST Academy candidates may apply if within 60 days of graduation
- Vaccination policies and health surveillance as applicable to healthcare facilities and research areas
- Must be a Colorado resident at time of application; must be at least 21 years old
- No felony convictions or domestic violence history; valid Colorado driver’s license; driving record requirements
- Ability to speak and understand English fluently
- Shifts include day, night, graveyard, weekend, and holiday; overtime and emergency responses as needed
- Ability to meet ongoing physical and job performance requirements; successful completion of background checks and related screenings
