The Liquor Enforcement Division's mission is to promote public safety, support economic growth, and ensure the responsible sale and consumption of liquor and tobacco products through the fair, transparent, and consistent administration of Colorado's liquor, tobacco, and nicotine laws.

The professional in this position is a certified Peace Officer - Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.), who fulfills statutory responsibility to administer and enforce Colorado's alcohol beverage and tobacco laws in a consistent and common-sense manner. It serves and protects the Colorado public and fosters a clean, healthy, three-tier industry within the state for the manufacture, distribution, and sale of alcohol beverages.

Job duties include conducting investigations of licensed liquor and tobacco businesses to ensure compliance with Colorado laws and regulations. This includes performing inspections, compliance checks, and undercover operations, preparing investigative reports and testifying in administrative or criminal proceedings. The Criminal Investigator III will gather evidence through interviews, surveillance, and database research, and may issue summonses or make arrests as needed.

The position requires extensive travel throughout Eastern Colorado on a daily basis, generally covering an area from the Wyoming border to Pagosa Springs (north to south) and from Grand Junction to Idaho Springs (west to east). The selected candidate must maintain Colorado residency throughout their employment and comply with all applicable State of Colorado and department remote work policies, procedures, and requirements.

Minimum qualifications include six years of full-time professional investigative experience in a regulatory environment and a valid Colorado POST certification that is active, in good standing, and free of any restrictions, suspensions, or revocations at the time of applying. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in accounting, business administration, public administration, criminology, criminal justice, criminalistics, political science, police science, law enforcement, law, psychology, sociology or a closely related field as determined by the department, and two years of full-time professional investigative experience in a regulatory environment, and a valid Colorado POST certification that is active, in good standing, and free of any restrictions, suspensions, or revocations at the time of applying may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis.
